Friday Morning

The eye of God awakening us each day provides  the weather report. Today sunshine!

Coffee, scones and blackberry parfaits. Then a walk to the waterfront.
Here are a few of my favorite things!

Then packing it all up to drive
home.

Thursday Evening

After pizza at the Resto Bar we returned home with the coffee and black berries. Dan layed down and I called Dad.
Then it was time to feed Pilgrim and pack up for our visit to Winchester Bay a hslf hour to the South.

Barbara and Steve, our neighbors arrived in their RV yesterday. We found them at sight 66 enjoying life as retirees. We shared happy hours and then went to dinner. Steve bought a roind of Oysters Rockafeller and we each had one! Then a beef and dhrimp louis.
Steve wanted us to see the Umpqua Lighthouse also sitting above Winchester Bay in view of Triangle Oyster Co.

Steve broke out the Oban Scotch snd Barbara and I shared decaf coffees. Lots of talk and laughs.
We drove home in Silence, letting the joyand peace sink into our bones.
Pilgrim was totally tuckered out! Their RV has a big toy box and he and Lily enjoyed thd evening very much.
Sweet Dreams and the setting sun.

Evening.

Dan bapped this afternoon;)
We met Dena and Jim at the Zebra Room. We talked for two hours nonstop!
Had a great time then crossed the street to Waterfront Depot.i didn't want to preplan the menu selections, but it kind of happened. The Pinot to drink. Crab stuffed mushrooms and lamb ribletsfor the appetizer. Then the crab ceasar forour entree. No dessert. Chocolate and almonds for dessert at home.
Pilgrim was amazing as always.

Beautiful sunset after dinner, we chased it!

Wednesday Afternoon

We had lunch at the RestoBar. Upon entering the bartender asked, "Do you want to sit outdoors?" I duppose he thought that was s nice to say No Dogs Allowed.
We ate a spinach salad for me and a pastrami ruben for Dan.
They a drive to Darlingtonia Gardens.

And to Haceta Head to walk the beach and snap a few photos.

Wednesday in Florence

Pilgrims toenails on the dark wood floors coupled with the skylight announce Morning! We rollover into the bowl of our bed and try to sleep in.
Inevitably we must arise, feed the dog and step outdoors. It's a snug yurt and the cool green humidity are welcoming. The yard was flat but now landscaped. Piles of sand, topspil and hemlock bark create berms whete natural glora abound. I particularly like the mock orange, flowering quince and baby pine trees.i set the table with the maryini hlasses prepared as breakfast parfaits; layers of nlueberries, plain fage yogurt and anytime crunch granola. Sunday after visiting Edith I made scones with quinoa flour and dried cranberries, so we have those with steamy cups of coffee.

After making the bed snd doing dishes in the black sink ( that was FUN) we went for a walk into town, admiring historic places architecture, flowers and eateries.

We visited Ron Olson's sister Dena at the Port of Siuslaw. We may have a cocktail date later today;)

Trip two:) Florence Oregon

Business first! We meet Dr. Pat Campbell the hospialist for two hours! He is a childhood friend of Dan's from Garden Home. After telling us about the life changing scandal he exposed in Redding California we got down to business!

Pat thinks Dan will, " sail through surgery".

At noon we headed west down Highway 99 towards Mapleton. It was a beautiful drive through wine country. We stopped in Sherwood for lunch at McMenamins. We are sharing a meal more often now.
Maybe we are preparing for the snmaller meals post surgery  (more and more, surgery is in our thoughts!).
We share a IRA beer, and have a sandwich half turkey, a tuna for Dan.
With side salad and tots.

It started raining as we approached Mapleton. Tonights restaurant was originally located in Mapleton, its train depot! We found our vacation home easily.

It has quite a history! It was on the historic register. A sadalry. Which our 'vacasa owners' tried to restore. The walls collapsed after they discovered only the roof was in tact, over a rotted floor and walls to support the structure.

We fed and pottied Pilgrim. There are so many beautiful features which i will photograph.
Dan went for ice. I showered for dinner.
We had a reservation at The Waterfront Depot for seven.
Dan had a scotch and water, i chose the gingertini.
Two appetizers were the french fried green beans and thai grilled prawns. Both were excellent! The entree we shared. It was a crab encrusted cod filet over yukon mashed potatoes and a ceasar salad.
We shared a large piece of Mexican chocolate cake ; cinnamon spicy with almonds. Oh it was good. Our entire bill was inder $50. Astounding by Portland prices.
We are returning tomorrow to choose again.
Pilgrim has had a little trouble settling down.
After watching the Blazers loose to the Clippers we go to bed.

Transitions

With deep sighs and yawns, we are settled into our big bed in our big bedroom. Pilgrim is settled on the floor near Dan. He protects us from intruders.

He has never been as happy to see us as he was today! Barking and wagging like crazy. Such unabashed DELIGHT!

For me Joy and disbelief. After a wedk of independence and coursge I am the visually impaired person I am becoming once again. It's just plain weird!

And today, Sunday, a headache and a knee pain that I hope will keep me from re entering.

Its SO psychological. I am gritting my teeth and digging in my heels. Please leave me in my shell another day. But there is no way to stop the emergence.
Pilgrim will pull and Dan will push. God will summon and sunshine will draw. All the pressures will build and this space of isolation and insulation will cease.

My Name is Lucy Barton

These were my favorite excerpts!

Saturday Vancouver B.C.

Saturday morning
We awake before the alarm harps. Thirsty. Dan showers and we dress for breakfast. Many are already off the ship, so the dining room is spacious. I long to see the blind couple again, who yesterday with canes extended, formed a conga line behind the dining room server as the onlookers smiled.

Breakfast for me was the eggs florentine, a croissant and an orange juice. Two years already with nary a full cup of regular coffee!

Then the process of leaving the ship, customs, a taxi with a Sikh to the airport, ticketing at Alaska, security, immigration, and then here at gate 85 to read and ponder what lunch
may be.

We eat at the Canucks Cafe. A burger for Dan and a BLT for me with cole slaw. The beer is a Goose Island
IPA. Then to gate 96 to read and wait.

Friday Seattle

Friday Seattle
First the alarm rings followed by a wake up call.

Turn on the room telly to envision the weather conditions in Seattle, which looks grey and rainy.
I read a chapter in The Hiding Place while Dan showers. I showered before bed to ease my sore feet.

We dress for breakfast and move to the dining room. A person at the desk comments to the spouse, that someone who pays to sail from Seattle to Vancouver BC, "has too much time and too much money." This coming from one who has either been sailing 5 days or 20?
(so they judge and are judged for judging, lol!)

Moving right along, Dan has the Dutch breakfast and I have a fruit plate snd muesli. Dan later comments that the dairy in this caused no phlegm in me! Hmmm
I read to Dan while he waits for his eggs to be cooked longer from the newspaper.

Once some passengers de boarded, we settle at the pool to read. Dan calls the bank about a reported fraudulent charge. And then he tries to schedule an appt. with the cardiologist but no one has that order?
Yesterday it was Joan at Homestreet telling us
the IRS check was not signed! Dan is becoming unhinged.
Lunch is good and relaxed. A pre lunch Heinekin and s large salad for lunch. I request a scoop of chocolate ice cream, Dan has an entree.

We change for our daily walk. It is a labyrinth because both long sides of the ship are closed in spots for fueling and the exit ramp.

So we refresh in the dark by reading until it's time to dress for the sip and sail. A pairing of the caprese appetizer and a Spanish red or white. We 'socialize with a couple from Oceanside CA and they left for
'sabbat'.

We sailed between Port Townsend and Fidalgo Is.
Admiring the 'seersucker sea' ripple. Dan's description;)

Dinner at The Tamarind is at 7:00. Five courses for $20. Soup is a delicate broth with wonton 'jewels', tempura shrimp, spicy salmon sushi, lobster tempura and three scoop sorbet: wasabi, passionfruit and lychee green tea. It was Fabulous🍤 Dan choose the coconut soup, beef ribs, sashimi, lamb with mint and a mango cloud;)

Home to our little love nest in 6163 to pack for home.
Dan reports that he, "had a nice day despite phone follies".

Thursday Victoria

Thursday Victoria
Up before the annoying alarm
Breakfast is an Italian Frittata, croissant  and fruit plate.
Outdoors the waters are calm and sunshine envelops this strait between Vancouver Island and Washington. Walk 4 laps before settling onto deck chairs Aft Deck on nine. Soak up sea and air.
Photographs and reading
My Corrie ten Boom book, The Hiding Place.

We each have a salad at the Lido Buffet prior to docking. We want to be fed when we walk into town. Be Prepared! We have in mind a pub for fish and chips and a pint:)

Also a memento; Dan's might be a tartan bow tie

We arrive in Victoria at 1:00. Off we trek on foot!
Up Government St. Down Douglas snd Gordon, over Broad and a lap around the Hudson's Bay Co. Store where the bow ties were either $30. Or $50!
We went into the Garrick Head Pub for fish, chips and a pub. Lucie was our waiter. We looked for the tartan store and it was gone. We crossed the Irish store and bought a bar of grapefruit and mossy soap for Lynn. At Murchies we bought cocktail napkins and cinnamon.

Then we hiked through the Empress and Totem Park to Dallas St. Admiring every yard and home in the James Bay neighborhood. Just a little lost and logging six miles on foot.

Dinner was a lemon drop and we extracted our swollen feet from tennis shoes.

Brooklyn was showing at 7:00 and we loved it. Then we stepped out on the deck for a final farewell. The sky rivaled Sorrento Italy in beauty!

Only nine, but a hot shower and a  bed await. Fun day:) with Dan

Nothing appealed to us on the program for today except early church which was too early:-/
Rainy windy 47degrees
(I suggest we rent a cabana to lie around on a bed by the pool and doze)
But not at $50.
So we proceeded to the Lido and settled comfortably at pool's edge, listening to the pool slosh noisily and rocking with the ship as we motor over the ocean (off the coast of Oregon i hear).
Hamish

I pushed my lunch plan after reading at the pool (wearing alternately a lap robe and shawl) for as long as possible. I asked Dan to bring us a kale Caesar and a pizza pie. He exceeded expectations returning with a mound of anchovies and shaved parmesan. I hailed a cocktail waiter for a glass of Black Opal Shiraz, in needed of warming. When we came together over the meal, we gave thanks and broke into it, fragrance of fresh basil (no incense).
The most fulfilling moment of the day arrived in the form of s challenge: finding the door marked WOMEN:)
I knew of the direction as I started across the area. Poor eyesight allowed me twice to linger searching for clues and then asking for assistance please.

Now deep fried fish. . .
